Civil Engineer from the Catholic University of Chile, Master in Latin American Social and Political Studies from the Alberto Hurtado University and PhD in Social Policy from Brandeis University (Massachusetts). He is an assistant a professor of the School of Government at the Universidad Católica de Chile.

He is a researcher at the Millennium Nucleus for the Study of Life Course and Vulnerability (MLIV), the Millennium Nucleus for Collaborative Research on Antimicrobial Resistance (MICROB-R), and the Research Center for Integrated Disaster Risk Management (CIGIDEN). He worked as a researcher in health economics and infectious disease modeling at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Schneider Institutes for Health Policy, Brandeis University, where he is currently a Visiting Research Scholar.
